Terms of Use
Last updated: April 6, 2026
1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using OpenLumin (“the Service”), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use the Service.
2. Description of Service
OpenLumin is a Bible learning and research platform that generates personalized interactive courses using scholarly sources including commentaries, lexicons, translations, and cross-references. The Service is designed for educational and devotional purposes.
3. User Accounts
- You must provide accurate information when creating an account.
- You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials.
- You must be at least 13 years old to create an account.
- One person may not maintain more than one account.
- You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.
4. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable laws.
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service or its related systems.
- Interfere with or disrupt the Service or servers connected to it.
- Use automated means (bots, scrapers) to access the Service without written permission.
- Redistribute, resell, or sublicense content generated through the Service without attribution.
5. Content and Intellectual Property
Scholarly Content:The commentaries, translations, and scholarly materials presented through the Service are sourced from public-domain works and openly licensed databases (CC-BY-SA-4.0). Attribution is provided for all scholarly content. Sources include: Berean Standard Bible, Matthew Henry, John Gill, Jamieson-Fausset-Brown, Adam Clarke, Michael Heiser, Easton's Dictionary, Theographic, and BibleAquifer ACAI data.
Generated Courses:Course structures, lesson content, and discovery questions are generated with the assistance of AI models using evidence retrieved from scholarly sources. While we strive for accuracy, these materials are for educational purposes and should not be considered authoritative theological statements. Every claim is labeled as either “verified” (traced to a specific scholarly source) or “training-assisted” (synthesized from the AI model's training data, with a cited published source).
Course Caching and Cloning: To improve performance and reduce costs, generated courses may be cached and served to other users who request the same topic at the same learner level. When a cached course is served, a copy is created in your account with independent progress tracking. The original course content (lesson text, scholarly citations) is identical — only your progress, flashcard state, and personal data differ.
Your Content: You retain ownership of any personal notes or content you create within the Service. By using the Service, you grant us a limited license to store and process your content solely to provide the Service to you.
Cover Images:AI-generated cover images for courses are created using Google's Gemini image model and are stored on our servers. These images are not copyrightable under current US law and may be reused.
6. Scholarly Attribution
OpenLumin attributes all scholarly insights to their original authors and sources. We do not present AI-generated theological interpretations as scholarly work. The platform retrieves and organizes existing scholarly content — it does not create new theological positions. Content labeled “training-assisted” indicates that the AI model contributed to the synthesis, and a published source is cited for verification.
6a. Church Plan and Organizations
The Church Plan allows subscribers to create an organization, invite members, and share courses. By using the Church Plan, you agree to the following:
- Organization administrators may invite members by email. Invited users receive an email and must create an account to join.
- Courses shared with an organization are visible to all members. Individual progress on shared courses is private to each member.
- Announcements posted by administrators are visible to all organization members.
- Organization owners and administrators can remove members at any time.
- Members can leave an organization at any time by contacting us.
- Subscription payments are processed by Polar.sh. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the billing period.
6b. Paid Subscriptions
Certain features (Church Plan) require a paid subscription. By subscribing, you agree:
- Subscriptions are billed monthly through Polar.sh.
- You may cancel at any time. Access continues until the end of the current billing period.
- We reserve the right to change pricing with 30 days' notice.
- Refunds are handled on a case-by-case basis — contact kalib@openlumin.com.
- The free tier of the Service will always remain free. Paid features are additional capabilities, not gated access to core functionality.
7. Disclaimer of Warranties
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components. While we attribute all content to scholarly sources, we do not guarantee the theological accuracy or completeness of any content presented through the Service. Users should exercise their own judgment and consult their faith community for theological guidance.
8. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, OpenLumin shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages resulting from your use of or inability to use the Service, including but not limited to damages for loss of data or other intangible losses.
9. Account Termination
You may delete your account at any time through the Settings page. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms. Upon termination, your data will be deleted in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
10. Changes to Terms
We may modify these Terms at any time. We will provide notice of material changes through the Service. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
11. Governing Law
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with applicable laws, without regard to conflict of law principles.
